Adopt-A-Kennel

KCHA's Adopt-a-Kennel program is a great way for businesses and individuals to support Kanawha County's homeless pets!

Each $600 annual sponsorship can be split into convenient $50 monthly payments and includes a certificate with your name, displayed prominently on the kennel for an entire year!

This annual Adopt-A-Kennel sponsorship provides a warm bed, medical care, enrichment, and safety for animals until they find their forever homes.

Planned Giving: Leaving a Legacy of Love for Animals

By including Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association in your estate plans, you have the unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of animals in need for generations to come. Your generosity and foresight will help ensure that our mission of providing compassionate care, finding loving homes, and advocating for animal welfare continues long into the future.

Why Consider Planned Giving?

Planned giving is a meaningful way to express your love and compassion for animals, even beyond your lifetime. By making a bequest or including Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association in your will, you create a legacy that reflects your commitment to animal welfare and the community. Your gift will contribute to our ongoing efforts to rescue, shelter, and protect vulnerable animals, giving them a second chance at a happy and healthy life.

Ways to Make a Planned Gift

  1. Bequests: A bequest is one of the most common and simplest ways to support KCHA in your estate plans. By designating a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate to our organization, you ensure that your love for animals continues to make a difference long into the future.
Include a bequest to KCHA in your will or trust. Make your bequest unrestricted or direct it to a specific program within KCHA.
Indicate a specific amount or a percentage of the balance remaining in your estate or trust.

    Sample Language:

"I bequeath _________(dollar amount or % of estate) to be used for its general purposes (or you may restrict the gift to a specific program) to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association or its successors and/or assigns by merger or purchase, federal tax identification number 55-0435381, whose permanent address is 1248 Greenbrier St, Charleston, WV 25311."
  2. Retirement Assets: You can name KCHA as a beneficiary of your retirement account, such as an IRA, 401(k), or 403(b). This allows you to make a significant impact while potentially providing tax benefits for your estate.
  3. Life Insurance Policies: Designating KCHA as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy allows you to make a more substantial gift than you may have thought possible, without affecting your current financial situation.
  4. Charitable Remainder Trusts: By establishing a charitable remainder trust, you can receive income during your lifetime while also providing support to KCHA. After your passing, the remaining assets in the trust will benefit our organization.
  5. Gifts of Appreciated Assets: Donating appreciated assets, such as stocks or real estate, can offer you tax advantages while supporting the animals in our care.

How to Get Started

We understand that planning your estate is a personal and thoughtful process. If you are interested in making a planned gift to KCHA, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Consult Your Financial Advisor: We encourage you to speak with your financial advisor, attorney, or estate planner to determine the best planned giving option for your circumstances and objectives.
  2. Contact Us: If you have already included KCHA in your estate plans or are considering doing so, we would be honored to express our gratitude and answer any questions you may have. Please contact Nikki McClanahan, Director of Development, at [email protected] to let us know about your generous intentions.
  3. Join Our Legacy of Love: By informing us of your planned gift, you will have the opportunity to join our Legacy of Love recognition program. This program honors individuals who have made provisions for the future support of KCHA.
