Dedicate Your Donation

Tribute gifts are a meaningful way to celebrate or memorialize a special person or pet while also supporting KCHA’s life-saving mission. To make a tribute gift:

Donate online. Check the “Dedicate this gift” box below and select the tribute type. If you would like KCHA to notify the honoree or a relative, please provide their contact information.
Mail a check made payable to KCHA to 1248 Greenbrier St., Charleston, WV 25311. Please include the name of the person or pet being honored, and if you’d like KCHA to notify anyone, please include that information as well.

Adopt-A-Kennel

KCHA’s Adopt-A-Kennel program is a great way for businesses, community groups, families, and individuals to support Kanawha County’s homeless pets. It’s also a perfect, heartfelt gift for the animal lover in your life – what better way to honor someone special than by providing a safe space for a pet in need?!

With an annual sponsorship of $600, which can be paid in full or in convenient monthly installments of $50, you’ll provide a warm bed, medical care, enrichment, and safety for animals until they find their forever home. Your sponsorship will be celebrated with a personalized certificate that will be proudly displayed on the kennel for a year. Plus, you’ll receive a copy of the certificate as a reminder of the difference you’ve made.

Adopting a kennel is easy – simply complete the form below or mail a check made payable to KCHA to 1248 Greenbrier St., Charleston, WV 25311, with “Adopt-A-Kennel” in the memo line.

Planned Giving: Leave a Legacy of Love for Animals

By including Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association in your estate plans, you have the special opportunity to create a lasting legacy that will directly impact the lives of animals in need. Your thoughtful generosity and foresight will help ensure that our mission of providing compassionate care, finding loving homes, and advocating for animal welfare continues for years to come. Your commitment will make a difference for future generations of animals and the people who love them.

If you’d like to extend your support to make a lasting impact, there are several gift arrangements to choose from:

Bequest: One of the most common and simplest ways to support KCHA is by including the organization in a will or trust. Anyone can make a bequest, in any amount, and it can be simple or complex - designate a specific gift amount or percentage of your estate to KCHA, make the gift unrestricted, or designate it to a specific program.
Sample language:
“I bequeath ____ (dollar amount or % of estate) to be used for its general purposes (or you may restrict to a specific program) to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association or its successors and/or assigns by merger or purchase, federal tax identification number 55- 0435381, whose permanent address is 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.”
Retirement Assets: Name KCHA as a beneficiary of your retirement account, such as an IRA, 401(k), or 403(b). This allows you to make a significant impact while potentially providing tax benefits for your estate.
Life Insurance Policies: Designate KCHA as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, allowing you to make a more substantial gift than you may have thought possible, without affecting your current financial situation.
Charitable Remainder Trust: By establishing a charitable remainder trust, you can receive income during your lifetime while providing support to KCHA. After your passing, the remaining assets in the trust will benefit KCHA’s life-saving mission.

Consult your Financial Advisor: We encourage you to speak with your financial advisor, attorney, or estate planner to determine the best planned giving option for your family, priorities, and wishes.

By informing us of your planned gift, you’ll have the opportunity to join our Legacy of Love program, which honors individuals and families who have made provisions for the future of KCHA’s mission.

Other Ways to Give

There are many ways you can support KCHA’s mission – below are just a few examples of different avenues for giving. No matter how you choose to give, your generosity will make a difference for animals in need.

IRA Distribution / Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

Make a tax-free donation to a charity directly from your IRA. If you’re 70 ½ or older, you can give up to $108,000 (across all charities) a year directly from your IRA to a qualified charity, such as KCHA. QCDs may satisfy your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year, as long as certain rules are met. If you plan to make a QCD, please email apollard@adoptcharleston.com – donor information is not always included with the distribution.

Donor Advised Fund (DAF)

A DAF, which is like a charitable savings account, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often gifts are granted to KCHA and other qualified charities, while offering you an immediate tax deduction.

Stocks

Donating appreciated stock that you’ve owned for at least a year may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via direct transfer to KCHA. The following information will ensure your gift is received and acknowledged appropriately:
